Labelled in November 2010 as the 'Eden Project with a difference', the launch of the Eden Local publication was also the launch of the campaign for Eden FM Community radio. One of the key strategies of the magazine was to raise awareness of the concept, after local press releases were turned down. Working with SVI Communications in Sussex, Eden FM radio have secured a rare find. It's an Ex BBC unit once used for transmission testing. The vehicle now acquired by Eden FM is currently in the SVI depot and following on from some minor work, electrical testing and an MOT members of the Eden will be on their way to Plumpton, near Lewes - Brighton on the Sussex Coast to bring the vehicle back to Penrith in Cumbria where the community radio has set up its transmission base. Today it was confirmed (Monday 20th June) that Eden FM have been award a £2,500 grant from the Pride of Penrith Lottery towards it's application fee for the RSL (restricted services licence) planned for November/December 2011. More news to follow on this fantastic bit of news
We need people from the community, people who in the short, mid and long-term can volunteer some time. You do not need experience, but as a team we will need a mix of people with and without radio knowledge. This can be in the front line on a mic, behind the scenes pushing plugs into the right sockets or helping out with IT, admin, DIY and a range of other things. The ambition is to have a full time community radio station. There are no guarantees and we have a long way to go. We need volunteers, equipment, premises and we’ll need to build a studio.
